About Fukuoka and Hakata

Hakata is the traditional name of a part of Fukuoka city, which first appeared in the history book written in 8th centry, and was a trading town since the Middle Ages.

Fukuoka is a town built with the Fukuoka castle in 17th centry. The whole town was named Fukuoka in 19century, the train station named Hakata Station, Fukuoka is used for the airport.

Hakata Japan Railway (JR) Station

Hakata railway station connects two Shinkansen (super express) lines, a subway (airport line #1) and two conventional railway lines. From Hakata: 1:30 hr to Kagoshima, 1:09 to Hiroshima, 2:28 to Shin Osaka.

The conference venue, Hotel Leopalace Hakata, is located in front of the Hakata railway station.

Fukuoka International Airport

The Fukuoka airport is located approximately 2km from Hakata Station and is directly connected by a subway line 1.

Dometic terminal: Domestic flights arrive at the domestic terminal, which is connected to a subway.

Internation terminal: There are many international frlights from East Asian contries such as South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore. There is a free shuttle bus service between the international and domestic terminals.

Currency

The local currency is the Yen (¥). Foreign currency is not accepted at most stores. Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops. Small restaurants and shops may not accept credit cards.

Major currencies, such as Euro or US dollar, can be exchanged at international airports and major banks.

Passports and Visa from France

Participants requiring a visa for entry to Japan are strongly advised to make their application in their home country at least three months before the intended date of travel.

For information, please consult your nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate or your travel agent. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality and duration of stay in Japan and possibly on the reason for your visit.

Letter of Invitation
Those who need a letter of invitation, please contact both the FJS-2019 chairmen and the secretariat.

Insurance

FJS-2019 will not assume responsibility for medical expenses of the attendees. All attendees are urged to ensure that they are covered by their own travel and health insurance policies while traveling to and from and while attending FJS-2019. FJS-2019 is not responsible for private possessions lost or stolen at the symposium.
