The Bangham Award

The Bangham Award Committee announces with great pleasure that they have unanimously chosen Professor Naoto Oku as the recipient of the A.D. Bangham FRS Life Achievement Award for Liposome Research in 2019 and extends their congratulations to him. Professor Oku is the Dean of the Faculty of Pharma-Science, Teikyo University, Tokyo, Japan, and Professor Emeritus of the University of Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Japan, the director of the Japan Society of Drug Delivery System, and the Former Director of the Japan Pharmaceutical Society. Professor Oku is a prominent liposomologist with a superior record of achievement as a scientist, researcher, teacher and mentor. His work has had major impact on the field of liposome/nanoparticle drug delivery.

The award ceremony will take place at Liposome Research Days 2019 at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, where Professor Oku will receive his award and give a short presentation on his laboratories' contributions to membrane research and drug delivery. Professor Oku joins previous award recipients Demetri Papahadjopoulos (1994), Gregory Gregoriadis (1995), Carl Alving (1996), Chesi Barenholz (1998), Pieter Cullis (2000), Terry Allen (2002), Leaf Huang (2004), Frank Szoka (2006), Lee Leserman (2008), Alberto Gabizon (2010), Vladimir Torchilin (2012) and Walt Shaw (2017) in receiving this prestigious award.
