  • Daikaku-ji is the mother temple of the Shingon Buddhism Daikaku sect. The origin of the temple was Emperor Saga’s Imperial Villa (Saga Rikyu-in) established on this site in the early Heian period, about 1,200 years ago.

It was a Monzeki temple (high-class temple), where only emperors or imperial descents had been appointed as chief priests through the ages until the early Meiji period.

  • At this historical temple, you can have private events at night on a lit up premise. During the event, you can organize dinner at Sirasuna garden (the garden is not open to public during daytime), sightseeing boat (Gekisu-boat), or performance of Gagaku (Japanese traditional music and dance) at Stone Stage.

Daikakuji was a temple where cultural figures and artists at Heian period made the cornerstone of Heian culture. This temple still retains the trace of Heian period and the guests will enjoy extraordinary and magnificent experiences.
