Message form Chairman

I am very delighted to organize the “TDDS (Transdermal Drug Delivery System) World Symposium 2015” held on September 26th, 2015 at Toranomon Hills Forum (Tokyo, Japan). This symposium is jointly hosted by The Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, Japan (APSTJ) and the External Pharmaceutical Association.

This symposium is an extension of the previous TDDS World Symposium held on December 1st, 2007 in Tokyo hosted by the Nakatomi Foundation. The current TDDS World Symposium 2015 is combined with the 7th Symposium of Focus Group for Transdermal Drug Delivery Products in APSTJ.

The pharmaceutical formulations applied on the skin (transdermal products) have been familiarly used for local actions such as pain relief, anti-itch, etc. for a long time, and have clinically contributed to improve the quality of life of the patients. Since the first transdermal products expecting the systemic actions made an impact in the market about 30 years ago, several systemic TDDS products have been developed successfully as many people know. Today, TDDS is highly evaluated in the clinical field and recognized as an important technology for the development of pharmaceutical products. It is expected especially in the super-aged society that TDDS will be desired by patients and contribute to improve patients’ compliance more than ever.

8 years have passed already since the last TDDS World Symposium, even though the research and development of TDDS products are rapidly advancing field. It will be very productive and significant for the future development of TDDS products that we have special lectures from renowned researchers, physicians, and administrative officers and discuss together. I believe this opportunity will contribute to the breakthrough for the development of TDDS products.

I hope many researchers will join the “TDDS World Symposium 2015” and make significant discussion.

Chairman of TDDS World Symposium 2015
