Experience crossing the frozen Nukabira Lake with snowshoes! This is a unique activity only possible during the one-month winter period when the lake is frozen. Riding a fat bike on the frozen Nukabira Lake offers a distinct winter experience in Hokkaido. Despite the low temperatures, riding a fat bike will keep you warm, and the wind on the ice is a special feature of this season.

Tour Overview

You will first travel from Obihiro Station to the Higashi-Taisetsu Nature Center for a briefing on the activities, safety precautions, and preparations for Nukabira Lake. Following this, you will experience snowshoeing with an English guide. After the snowshoeing experience, enjoy lunch at La Table de Kamishihoro, a restaurant inside the Kamishihoro Roadside Station. After lunch, you will experience fat biking with the English guide. Following the fat bike session, you will disperse at the Higashi-Taisetsu Nature Center and then transfer to Obihiro Station by private vehicle, concluding the tour.

Notes

Appropriate attire includes cold-weather gear such as ski wear, thermal knitwear, thermal gloves, a hat covering the ears, sunglasses (goggles), gloves, and insulated boots. Goggles, hand warmers, and a camera are also recommended. Please be cautious of "gas holes," which are areas where gas from under the frozen lake creates thin spots or holes in the ice. Snow covering these holes can lead to accidental falls into the water.
